Saskatoon Law KnowledgeSmall Claims Court:
At Small Claims Court claims currently cannot exceed $20,000 in value. Disputes involving title to land, slander, libel, bankruptcy, false imprisonment or malicious prosecution are not handled by Small Claims. This Court is meant to be an easier and less expensive way to resolve disputes and often is a good place for a person to bring an action if they do not have or cannot afford a lawyer. The Court staff can help prepare the necessary forms such as a Statement of Claim. The Small Claims web site also offers assistance.
If you are served with a Statement of Claim from Small Claims court, you are required to attend a Case Management Conference otherwise; judgment may be made against you.
